NYT slideshow

Highly recommended: the narrated slideshow produced by NYT photographer Michael Kamber chronicling an attack that killed one and wounded several members of the 10th Mountain Division combat team he was accompanying.

We have such great storytelling tools nowadays. (Thanks to Journalistopia for the pointer).

As an American citizen, I feel that stories like this need to be told so that those wishing to be ignorant to the woes that our soldiers face will have a reality check. I hope that their arrogance gets knocked down a peg or two.

As a girlfriend of a soldier that was on that specific patrol, I'm devistated that I came across this story on the news while my boyfriend was trying to protect me from worry with refusing to tell me about the attack. Perhaps the media could do more truthful "storytelling" as you call it instead of inflating the negatives-- there ARE positives happening regularly. Maybe then we could SUPPORT our soldiers-- ALL of us.
