I'm sure you're all heard or read by now that Clark Hoyt has been named public editor at the
New York Times.
I've worked closely with Clark only since our

purchase of Knight Ridder a year ago (he's been a trusted consultant and colleague) but have known him as a great journalist far longer. His values and judgments are second to none in this business, and I just want to second
Dan Gillmor's observation – echoed by many others – that this is a brilliant move. I think it will be good for the
New York Times, and our whole profession.
It's a very hot seat in a volatile industry at a critical time. I'm glad Clark's there.
